WinBoard Update Pack XP SP2 2.21

I can safely say that I am a computer saavy person. I had never had any problems running Windows XP, no viruses, spyware...etc. But at the same time I don't have a college degree in Computer Science.
Recently, the icon for the automatic updates that appear in the tray has changed from the usual globe to a yellow shield with a "!" in the middle, and along with that I'm given two options. Either to do it automatically but do not have to restart, or manually or have to restart. Besides, there is less details given about the nature of updates.What's going on? And what do you you think is the best course of action? Do I leave it on? Or turn it off?
